January 2019 Cellar Club

Posted by Rose Friedlander on

Our focus this month, as we begin 2019, is wines of character produced under the protocols of Biodynamic farming. Rudolf Steiner's concept from the 1920's sees the farm as one living organism in harmony with the sun, moon and stars. Chemicals are eschewed in favor of natural materials and composts. Cultivation and harvest follow a calendar in accord with nature.Thank you for being a member of The Cellar Club!HAPPY NEW YEARWine Pick #1:Les Deux Moulins Sauvignon BlancLoire Valley, FranceBiodynamic, no sulfites added, sustainable. This wonderful Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from vineyards located between Anjou and Tours in the Loire Valley rich...

A communal dining tradition of melted cheese in a pot has no fixed historical point of origin. A winter's meal utilizing old bread and aged cheese seems nearly as old as the Alps themselves. We Americans can point to the "Age of Aquarius" 1960s as the cultural zenith of Fondue. You might've even noticed an appearance of the delicious fare on an episode of Mad Men, so ubiquitous was a Fondue party among the smart set. Now, a rediscovery of Fondue in all its many forms (cheese, meat, chocolate, etc.) has a new generation experiencing the fun and flavor of...
