Cellar Club January 2018

Cellar Club January 2018
Come by and pick up the amazing Australian & New Zealand
wines we selected for you.
The perfect wines for a New Year!

McLaren Vale is a wine region centered at the town of McLaren Vale approximately 35 km south of Adelaide in South Australia. It is internationally renowned for the wines it produces.
Although initially the region's main economic activity was the growing of cereal crops, grapes were first planted in the region in 1838 and some vines more than 100 years old are still producing. Today there are more than 88 cellar doors in McLaren Vale. The majority are small family-run operations and boutique wineries.

Marlborough is by far New Zealand's most important wine region. Situated at the northeastern tip of the South Island, this dry, sunny region produces around three-quarters of all New Zealand wine. It is particularly famous for its pungent, zesty Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
The region consists of two parallel valleys, the Wairau and the Awatere. It stretches up the Pacific coast from Kaikoura to Picton, a small port town in the Marlborough Sounds. The long, straight Wairau Valley is slightly longer-established than the Awatere and has a greater share of Marlborough's 58,300 acres of vineyards.

Enjoy these two special wines for our January 2018 Cellar Club selections. Happy New Year and Cheers!

Wine Pick #1:
2013 D'Arenberg d'arry's Original
Shiraz/Grenache
McLaren Vale, South Australia, Australia.
This 50-50 blend is firm, focused and rich, offering attractive aromas of mint, vanilla, cedar and red-skinned plums. Flavors turn darker, suggesting espresso and chocolate, but enlivened by bright acids. Produced from low yielding, hand harvested vines and made using traditional techniques.
Always one of those little cellar stars that you can buy up a case or two, hide under the house for a decade and be quietly content that d'Arry's Original will be shining in a decade.

Wine Pick #2:
2016 Matua Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough, New Zealand
Like a sip of fresh air! This classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is overflowing with tropical aromas of passionfruit and guava. The palate is deliciously punchy and aromatic, with concentrated flavors of citrus and tropical fruits all wrapped up in a textural finish. It's pretty tasty if we do say so ourselves!

Along with your 2 bottles of wine
you will be receiving:
Cheese & Wine Traders
House-Made Marinated Feta
One of our favorite things to make!
Soft textured cubes of Feta cheese are drenched in garlic infused extra virgin olive oil, spices and herbs.
Serve with roasted vegetables, salads, pasta, on crusty bread or with antipasto accompanied with a crisp dry white wine (Matua Sauvignon Blanc).

A perfect pairing for both wine selections and our delicious recipe of the month:
Australian Pasta
(perfect for the cold weather!)
