This was only the second vintage for this fantastic iteration of Riesling from winemaker Barnaby Tuttle who, quite literally, had to employ a jackhammer to plant the vines! It richly presents notes of quince, lychee, grapefruit and green apple with all the fruit carried on a fine level of acidity. This is a Riesling lover’s Riesling and not to be missed at this price.
The vines reside in the town of Hollenburg on the south side of the Danube with conglomerate chalky soils. The wine is spontaneously fermented and aged in Burgundy barrels with flor in the warm cellar. The wine spends over 5 months with the flor, a layer of yeast atop the fermenting juice. Strawberry, tart fruits, and salty minerality with mild tannins.
Tasting Profile: A medium bodied, organically grown wine with notes of crunchy red fruits, roses, and a silky finish—a great wine to chill before drinking.
Food Pairing: Pulled pork, serrano ham pizza, lamb
The grapes were whole cluster pressed with minimal skin contact to achieve its color. Filled with cherry, apple, and strawberry notes. Dry with a crisp and refreshing finish.
Grown from their home-owned Oakbank vineyard producing this expressive cool-climate Syrah. Wild-fermented with 50% whole clusters and matured for 10 months in primarily neutral oak barrels with 8% new oak. An elegant and spicy Syrah with hints of red fruit, dark plum, and hazelnut notes.
Harvested from southeast facing 25-year-old vines in granite soils and fermented in large foudre with native yeasts then aged 10 months on the lees. A medium-bodied viognier with bright notes of peach, dried apricot, flowers, and fresh acidity leading into a long finish.
Deep, crimson color. This Altano red reveals scented floral aromas and focused, fresh fruit. Simultaneously full and silky on the palate, well defined red fruit flavors come to the fore, enveloped in soft, ripe tannins and spicy notes. Generous, well-structured, and elegant.
Borgo Scopeto Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2015
Deep ruby red. Aromas are full and intense. Various and well-integrated aromas ranging from small black berries to noble wood, like vanilla, cocoa, and licorice create an enigmatic complexity. Dry, well-structured, combining austerity and elegance: the acidity is well balanced to a texture of intense but very fine tannins. Long aftertaste.
Bright ruby-red. On the nose, the cherry components are accompanied by persistent hints of licorice. On the palate, there is a good structure deftly balanced by sufficient acidity. The fruitiness comes from tastes of rich, ripe cherries. Incredibly long on the finish with intriguing hints of resinated wood.
