Wine Pick #1:

Borell Diehl Müller-Thurgau 2022

Pfalz, Germany

The timbered home that houses this family-owned estate in Hainfeld was built in 1619, but the estate in its current form is far more recent than that. Annette Borell and Thomas Diehl married in 1990 and combined their families’ three wineries into one with both of their family names. They started with a mere 5 hectares but have expanded to 35, all within 5km of Hainfield in the Pfalz. They have a unique soil variety, including loess, limestone, and red sandstone, with mineral limestone deposits.

Wine Pick #2

Clos La Coutale Malbec 2021

Cahors, France

Clos La Coutale is a 100-hectare estate in the Cahors appellation. This estate is owned by the Bernède family, whose wine-making dates back six generations. The jack-of-all-trades and Renaissance man, Philippe Bernède, continues the family tradition with heart and ingenuity. Philippe’s vines rest upon the gentle slopes of the Lot River. Over the years, Philippe has tinkered with the house blend to achieve a more excellent equilibrium. Today, the blend consists of 80% Malbec and 20% Merlot, creating an intense wine that juggles elegant rusticity with everyday drinkability.

CHEESE PAIRING OF THE MONTH:

Plymouth Artisan Cheese Ballyhoo Brie

Made in Vermont by the award-winning Plymouth Artisan Cheese Company, this soft-ripened brie cheese is a must-try! Made with pasteurized cow’s milk, the square-shaped nugget is profoundly redolent of mushrooms and earthy sous-Bois. Its creamy, springy paste is an explosion of butter and roasted hazelnuts with a brothy umami finish. Still, the cheese can retain its milky qualities and melts away quickly on the tongue!
